Your Child's First Visit
Pediatric Dentist - Oregon CIty, OR
At Great Grins for KIDS - Oregon City, our first priority is for you to feel welcome in our practice. When you and your children walk in our front door we will greet you with smiles. We understand how hard it can be for some children to overcome their fear of the dentist and make the trip to our office and we are excited at the opportunity to turn that anxiety into interest. We strive to make every part of their visit enjoyable, educational, and welcoming so that they won't be worried in the future. We want to ensure we answer all of your questions and what to expect. Here is what you can expect on your first visit to our office.
The First Step
When you arrive we will greet you and give you some paperwork to fill out. These are the standard forms that you receive at the preliminary visit to any medical or dental practice. First time sign-ins include patient registration, medical and dental history forms, and dental insurance forms. The medical and dental history forms are important to help aid us in treating your child. If you know of any allergies to medications, please let us know.
What Your Child Can Expect
When everything has been properly filled out we will call your child to be seen. If you would like to hold their hand while we do a walkthrough of our facility, we totally understand. Helping them to feel comfortable is just as important to us as their oral health and safety. We will take them on a tour of the patient chair, and show them some of the tools that we will be using to clean and examine their teeth. Familiarizing kids with the things that will be used during the procedure helps to calm their nerves quite a bit.
Once they have had a chance to see everything and feel comfortable we can give them an X-ray. We take X-rays of all new patients so that we can gain a comprehensive understanding of the current state of their mouth. With X-rays, we are able to spot areas on the teeth where decay may be starting to form, as well as issue that have yet to arise. We even track the development of adult teeth and wisdom teeth to ensure that they are coming in on time and in the correct way.
A professional cleaning is always welcome. We take the time to thoroughly clean your kid's teeth to ensure that all decay causing bacteria (plaque) is removed. We will finish the cleaning with a polishing to ensure that it's much more difficult for plaque to build up on their teeth.
Finally, Dr. Fariba Mutschler will perform a thorough examination of their mouth. During this exam he checks on a wide variety of issue, looking for warning signs of everything from tooth decay to unexpected growths and proper tooth alignment.
Our goal is to help your child develop great oral hygiene habits and avoid oral health concerns in the future. We want to make sure that they feel excited to come in to our office for every appointment. Please call us today at 971-470-0045 to schedule an appointment.
