What are dental crowns?
Dental crowns are coverings that protect the whole surface of your tooth. You can think of them as “shells” that wrap around your tooth and strengthen it while also working to extend its life beyond what a procedure like a dental filling would be able to do. These crowns for baby molar teeth are usually made out of stainless steel. Front teeth crowns are more attractive because they are made from a mixture of plastic and microscopic powdered glass or other porcelain type materials.
Why would I need a dental crown?
There are a number of things that could cause you to choose a dental crown. Some children grind their teeth so much that they destroy much of the tooth and leave the nerve more likely to be irritated and possibly die. Stainless steel crowns are helpful to restore the worn down teeth and help them last until they fall out naturally. Extremely decayed teeth as well as fillings that have become fractured are other reasons for dental crowns.
What kinds of dental crowns are there?
In general, there are three dental crowns that are the most commonly used. These are stainless steel crowns, composite (glass and plastic) crowns, and porcelain crowns. It is a good idea to speak with your dentist and get their advice as to which kind of crown is the best option for you.
