Why Do Children's Permanent Teeth Look YellowPermanent teeth can turn yellow from their original color as the dental formula grows and develop. The dental eruption is typical and causes the permanent teeth to turn yellow.

Causes Why the Teeth Remain Yellow

The teeth are composed of several layers: the enamel, dentin, and pulp. The color depends mainly on the composition and thickness of the layers. Permanent teeth co-exist with temporary teeth, with a thinner layer of enamel and dentin that is more susceptible to turning yellow in case of enamel erosion.

Yellow Teeth in Children: is it Common?

Yellow teeth occur in children when the permanent dentition erupts, causing a shade of the enamel to darken or turn yellow. However, the most common reason the permanent teeth will turn yellow in most children is poor oral hygiene, especially failure to brush and floss the teeth regularly.

If the tooth brushing is not done correctly and correctly, bacterial plaque accumulates on the teeth' enamel, causing damage and weakening of the thin layer. Also, the more damage to the thin layer, the more the child's teeth will appear yellow.

In addition, fluorosis, a condition caused by excess fluoride within the teeth, can cause yellowing and oral diseases, especially gum diseases, which may change the color of the teeth to yellow. Also, specific medication's effects are a factor in yellowing permanent teeth, and consuming pigmented foods may cause yellowing of the teeth.

In conclusion, yellowing of permanent teeth is manageable and preventable by regular dental checkups and practicing good oral hygiene. Also, proper cleaning and flossing of the teeth are essential in maintaining the natural color of the teeth and treating oral diseases that result in yellowing. Furthermore, dentists can conduct teeth whitening to reduce the yellow patches that form on the child's teeth.

My daughter was a little nervous to have her dental work done but everyone in the office was super friendly and very reassuring and that helped her nervousness go away. Thanks for the excellent dental experience. ~ Lilyana G.
