Why Primary Are Teeth Important?

Primary TeethPrimary or Baby teeth are important to take care of for several reasons: of course they are used to bite and chew with and yes they look great in a child’s smile but they also contribute to the growth of the jaw bones, guide the eruption of permanent molars, and maintain the space required by the permanent teeth that will erupt into the mouth between the ages of five and thirteen.

Baby teeth that are not cared for properly will become decayed (infected with mouth bacteria that form a sticky plaque) and this decay can cause pain and infections and possibly affect the development of permanent teeth.  Primary teeth that have to be removed due to decay may delay the eruption of the permanent teeth and require expensive space maintainer appliances that have to be cared for over many years.  It is definitely healthier and much less expensive in discomfort, time and money to daily floss, brush and limit sweets (including juice) than to neglect these baby teeth.
