Regular Dental Care
Should you still get regular dental checkups while braces are on? Yes!
Regular dental care is especially important for children in orthodontic appliances (braces) because the braces are so difficult to clean around. The parts of teeth covered by orthodontic bands are actually protected from cavities as long as all decay is removed prior to placing the braces – but the exposed parts of teeth can still decay.
Since we provide both orthodontic and pediatric dental care, we will keep an eye on all oral health problems. All cavities should be filled and home dental cleaning should be adequate before receiving braces. After all cavities are filled, the best way to prevent future problems is by thorough flossing and brushing with a high-fluoride toothpaste at home every day and regular preventative continuing care at least twice yearly. They should be examined more frequently than before the braces.
