Broken Appliances
Broken orthodontic appliances are uncommon but can occur.
The most common problems arise from biting on a bracket and knocking it off of the tooth.
Other parts of the braces that can break or bother you are the wires that go between the brackets or the steel ties that hold the wire into the bracket.
You can avoid breaking your braces by eating carefully.
We allow our orthodontic patients to eat all foods but urge them to use caution with hard and sticky foods such as raw carrots, caramel, Jolly Rancher candy, corn nuts, or ice.
Brackets that break off of your tooth is only an emergency if you use a rubber band to that tooth.
Otherwise, just give us a call to glue it back on at your next appointment.
If something is poking you, and the wax we gave you is not helping, we are happy to take care of it right away so give us a call.
