About Dr John Engle

Dr. EngleDr. John Engle was born in Iowa, and lived there up to grade school age. He made a short move to Arizona on the way to So. Calif. John attended high school at Wm. S. Hart High, named for the one time silent movie cowboy actor.

Attended college at Chico State (now called Calif. State Univ. at Chico), and was active in student government, and having fun.

Dr. Engle went to Dental school at U.C.L.A., graduating in 1972. Then he came to Oregon for pediatric training on an N.I.H. training grant. Spent three years in the pediatric department, and explored several areas of potential research. He ended up in the Dental Materials graduate department to write a thesis investigating low gold content casting metals. He stayed on in Dental Materials on a part-time basis for years. Dr. Engle has been fortunate to have a number of publications, and has presented numerous papers and clinics to both national and international research organizations. Through this work he got to travel quite extensively.

He has been in practice for 30 years, balancing that with teaching and research. Is now returning to part-time academics in the Pediatric Dental department with responsibilities overseeing resident research.

Personal stuff includes a wife and one son. His wife presently serves as Student Services Coordinator at a high school, having responsibility for all student activities (homecoming, assemblies, prom, etc). Son is a student at Notre Dame in political science. Through their Hesberg public policy program he has been awarded a support grant for work in politics/public policy. He plays in the Band of the Fighting Irish, and hopes to be Drum Major.
